OpenFlight is a 2 dimensional space flight game created from scratch in Java. It was inspired by an arcade game called Raiden II. OpenFlight is provided with the BSD License.
OpenFlight was started as a highschool project for an Advanced Placement computer science class. The creator, Reginald Ford (known as Rex), built a multi-layered 2-d gaming platform on Java2d with collision detection. The game was left for years at release 0.5.6 when Rex went to undergraduate school for mathematics. Development restarted in early 2011.
